Advent Study: Meanings of Jesus (In-Person)

2021-12-05 11:00 2021-12-05 12:00 America/Los_Angeles Advent Study: Meanings of Jesus (In-Person)

The “good confession” is the affirmation of faith for Disciples: “I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God and proclaim him Lord and Savior.” What does it mean when we affirm this? Join with others for a three-week exploration of what it means to claim that Jesus is the Christ and proclaim him Lord and Savior. The first week will utilize a chapter from The Faith We Affirm by Ronald Osborn. The chapter explores what Disciples mean by “the good confession,” written by one of our own church historians. In weeks two and three, we will turn to a book by Diane Butler Bass, Freeing Jesus. In it, she investigates six roles or titles often ascribed to Jesus through the lens of her own personal faith journey. The two titles we will read and discuss are “Lord” and “Savior”. In-person sessions will meet on Sundays after worship, beginning Sunday, November 28. Please RSVP by contacting the Church Office (fcc@fccpomona.org; 909-622-1144). The Faith We Affirm can be purchased online or borrowed from the church library. Freeing Jesus is also available online in book and audio formats.
