Día de los Muertos at FCC Child Development Center

2023-11-02 17:30 2023-11-02 18:30 America/Los_Angeles Día de los Muertos at FCC Child Development Center

You are invited to participate in this traditional day of remembrance that follows All Saints’ Day! FCC Pomona will recognize All Saints’ Day on Sunday, November 5. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a multi-day holiday with a less solemn tone than All Saints’. It provides space to remember friends and family with both humorous and serious anecdotes. Ofrendas are often built as memorials to a person or persons. An ofrenda consists of a picture of the deceased and tokens of their life: A favorite dessert, objects that represent something or someone important in their life, etc. For instance, a person with a gardening hobby might be remembered with a packet of seeds by their picture. CDC Director, Hilda Koorn, is assembling ofrendas for CDC families, staff, and FCC church members who’d like to participate! The ofrendas will be set up in the Narthex of the church (the part between the entry and the sanctuary). If you’d like to participate, please bring a picture of someone you want to remember and one or two items that signify something about them to the church by Friday, October 27. Pictures can also be emailed to cdc@fccpomona.org. Don’t forget to join us for the main the event on Thursday, Nov. 2nd from 5:30-6:30p! There will be refreshments served in the breezeway of the school.

A cartoony-y felt skull made for the Day of the Dead is embroidered with hearts for eyes, flowers, and vine detailing. It sits amidst cloth flowers in rich hues of orange, yellow, red, and purple. The display sits on a colorful tablecloth made up of dark blue, green, white, and bright orange shapes. Image via Pixabay.
