Building Housing Resilience

2019-05-19 11:30 2019-05-19 13:00 America/Los_Angeles Building Housing Resilience

Please Note: Lunch will be served In the parable of the sheep and goats, the question is asked, “When did we see you?” This parable is often pointed to as indication that Christians are to SEE Jesus in the lives of people who are suffering. People are suffering all around us because they are housing stressed or without housing at all. What are we to do about this huge problem? The First Christian Church Organizing Team invites you to be part of the conversation and the solutions that will be needed to build housing resilience in our communities. It costs communities real money when we do not SEE people in their vulnerability and meet them in it. Can we imagine being a different kind of community that SEES and recognizes ways to build resilience not only for ourselves but for the communities in which we live, work and worship? The Organizing Team will present stories that highlight just a few assumptions about housing and then lead participants in small group conversations on those topics. We will also imagine together what a housing resilient community might look like and consider some next steps together. This is an opportunity to talk about important matters in light of our faith AND to develop deeper relationships with people in our church community. You can make a reservation by contacting the church office or filling out a bulletin insert on Sunday, beginning May 5th.
