How Does A Christian Choose? A Lent Study When we choose to follow Jesus, we choose to walk through life in a way that is guided by the way of Jesus. To follow Jesus is to: understand and follow foundational ethics of the Hebrew scriptures know the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus seek to grow up in Christ. All of this requires discernment and decision making. Most people are not conscious of all the varied inputs by which they make ethical/moral choices. If Christians are to follow more and more faithfully the way of Jesus, it is vital we seek to understand what influences our moral and ethical decision-making process. It is also vital that we learn HOW to think and pray through this process. Discernment and moral choice is not an individualist action, but a spiritual practice of the community of faith. Who has moral authority in the church? What is the place of the preacher in reflecting with the worshiping community about the ethical implications of a biblical text in light of current events? How are decisions made in light of our faith, in the life of a congregation, a denomination, a family, an individual? Mike and Julie will lead this course, utilizing in part a classic text in Christian Ethics and Theology: Christ and Culture by H. Richard Niebuhr as well as more recent voices and perspectives not part of the conversation when Dr. Niebuhr wrote this book. The class is offered in person on Sundays after worship on the following dates: Feb. 22, March 1, March 8 and March 15 RSVP by emailing fcc@fccpomona.org
