Zechariah 7:8-10

The word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying: Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgements, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.

Jeremiah 22:3

Thus says the Lord: Act with justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the orphan, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.

Galatians 5:13-15

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

This week’s sermon is made up of 4  reflective vignettes, each crafted by someone who attended our recent Pilgrimage to Manzanar. The above video includes all four vignettes in the order in which they were shared on Sunday. If you’d like to hear a particular story, go to the following timestamps:

  • 01:27: Honoring a Healer (Jamie Gibson)
  • 05:18: We Will Be Remembered (Bob Benza)
  • 07:35: Loyalty Demanded, Loyalty Denied (David Cho)
  • 14:01: The Courage to Name Hate (Rev. Dr. Julie Roberts-Fronk)

You may also notice that we don’t have as many camera angles as we normally do! That’s because we are having some issues between various programs and software updates that we’re still trying to resolve. For now, just focus on the sweet sounds of our voices.
